Merry Christmas

This Christmas had been so wonderful and meaningful..I went to church consecutively 3 days in a row..busy yet joyful..

2D1N at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa

This weekend, I had the privilege to join the Company Senior Management meeting at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa, Cyberjaya..a very beautiful resort..highly recommended by GM..he said, "Once you are there, you are in a different world!"..he decided to take me along for 2 reasons..a) to take minutes b) to prove to me that his statement is true..

I was having some tough time booking for meeting room and guest room..as the resort was fully booked and the meeting room charges was kinda expensive..Furthermore, only 4 of us (GM, Senior Sales manager, Senior Finance manager and a small 'kay lei fei'-me), so additional room rental will be imposed...I managed to get one guest room, and bad news is-I don't get to stay there..a lil' disappointed..but never mind ler..

On Sat, I woke up quite early because I wanted to leave Klang earlier, just in case I lost my way, I still have the time buffer to find my way and not to be late for meeting..but then, I underestimated my sense of direction..I actually managed to find the place in such a short time..Thank God for that..

The meeting started from 9am-5pm, with 2 coffee breaks and 1 buffet lunch..food were good!..for sure I need to go on diet for few days after the meeting..

One thing good about the meeting was that, I get to listen to many 'P&C' news and information, to learn from managers how to run a company, how to manage people and business..but of course, to be professional..I need to zip my mouth after walking out from the meeting room ler..which I believe I will..

On the first night after the meeting, one of my senior manager was kind enough to allow me to stay on her behalf..coz she stays very near to the resort, she can just drive home and come the next morning..so I need not drive all the way back to Klang..was really grateful for that and I was smart enough to bring my clothes, just in case God answered my prayer..haha..just joking..I sms sis to tell her that I will be staying over at the resort..the next thing that I knew was that Mum gave me a call.."you didn't tell me you are staying there? did you bring your clothes? who are you staying with?"..oh dear! Mum had the funny idea that I will be staying with my GM..coz I told her I am following GM for meeting this weekend..after my assurance to her that I am staying with my senior manager, who is a mother of two..then the topic closed..anyway, what makes mum think that I will stay with my GM?? sigh

GM took us for dinner at Cheras..just 4 of us and the bill came up to RM200++..wow..after the dinner, we went back to the resort and the night was still young..I followed them for a drink..

I just can't understand why all bosses like to make their staffs drink..I learnt how to drink wine from my ex-boss..and now, how to drink beer from GM..He asked me."so ai leng, how's the beer?".."well, tasted alright..acceptable.." then he laughed and said.."when i first drink beer, I asked myself..why on earth people will drink such a horrible drink..bitter..and now you said its alright..that's is very dangerous.."...haha..ended up, I drank from a half empty glass to one full glass..

Then, we had interesting chatting session..touching more on personal life..my GM is getting married next year and he shared on his love experience..he was an love expert, his friends called him Doctor Love..he had so many tactics on how to tackle girls and all of them worked well..but then, with his fiance, he said both of them didn't really go through those romantic process..the relationship just started naturally..perhaps because both are old enough and mature..understand that once a relationship started, commitment is a MUST to sustain the relationship..which I strongly agreed upon..then he asked, " ai leng, do you have a boy friend?"..err..I told him a white lie (my friend said its not white, its black..terrible him).."yeah, I do have a bf.".."then when wanan get married? can consider this place for wedding dinner or a garden wedding ler.."..then the more questions GM asked, I need to tell some nice stories already..the reason why I said yes is because I knew it will definitely save me some explainations than saying No..coz he will surely ask.."how come don't have? why?" bla bla bla..then after the meeting on the last day, GM invited the family members or spouses to join for dinner..so he asked, " is your bf joining us for dinner?".."oh no..he is not free.."..haha..the lie getting bigger and bigger..but never mind ler..juz hope that God will not punish me for this..perhaps made the lie came true..haha..day dreaming again

alright..gotta stop writing here..too tired and have to save energy to write out the minutes..ciao

Dale Carnegie-Outstanding Performance Award

Last Thursday during my 7th class, I was glad to be the winner for outstanding performance award..
Let me first briefed you guys and gals a lil' bit on how the class works each week..There are 2 sessions and both sessions require the participants to be actively involved in either giving presentation, speech or opinions for 60 seconds...and then, all participants will vote for the best performance winner..the gift is either an exclusive pen from USA or books..
For the past 6 weeks, I had been longing to win one..partly because my GM kept asking me the same question every Friday (my class os on Thursday)-"So have you win anything yet?" "make sure you win something."..kinda tension as he placed such a high hope on me..
and to tell you the truth, more often, I voted myself for each session..haha..so kiasu..
So this week, each of us were required to show the class some business skills or personal skills, which can be very useful and beneficial to others..
Initially, I wanted to teach them how to tie skarf or wear skarf in various pattern, and you can wear it to work..but of course, it would only benefit the ladies..Then, I asked my cousin to teach me some 'ikatan' that she learnt from Red Crescent..But one day before the class, as usual, the G.A. called me and doing some follow up jobs..she gave me the idea for my presentation the next day-How to fold a shirt in a nice and fast way.
I remembered my sis taught me before on this..so that night, I requested sis to teach me again but unfortunately, she herself had forgotten how..my goodness..but would like to say a BIG thank you to her coz she took the trouble to surf the net, to get into the website and learnt from there..(I went for choir practice that night)..when I got home, she shown me the tactic..and she made a confident statement-"I guaranteed you that you will win tomorrow!"..wow..
True enough, I won..however, I left the class earlier as I need to go for a Christmas celebration at 8.15pm..so I didn't get the chance to hear my name announced, to receive my award and also to give my thank you speech..while I was in the train, I sms my colleague who is my classmate also.."hey, did I win the award? I hope I win..if not, who is the winner?"..30 mins later, he called me.." hey, why did you go back earlier? congratulations, you won the award!"..."true or not?".."true ler.."..hehe...what a funny gal I am...initially so confident, then when the news came, have doubt pulak..haha..
The winner of each class has to give a T.O.U.T speech..T=Thank You; O=Others; U=Usage; T=Thank You again..so Here goes my speech
First of all, I would like to thank all of you for your votes..and was really happy that what I taught today was beneficial to you. I also want to thank my sister for her great help, my GM for his constant 'reminder'..I think I will use this pen when I am taking down meetings minutes..Once again, thank you to everyone!
Will show you all the picture of my award next week..

Christmas Decoration @ Midvalley-11.12.2006

It was public holiday, Sultan Selangor's birthday..Sis and I decided to go Christmas shopping at Midvalley..coz friend told me that the deco there was beautiful..furthermore, we had free meal vouchers to San Francisco Steakhouse..so kill 2 birds with 1 stone.. Last year, the Christmas deco was based on White Christmas..this year, even more colorful and attractive..hard work and efforts done by the management..bravo!
I bought a Reebok bag, 50% discount..so I can carry it to Cambodia during month end..didn't manage to shop on clothes..budget tight..haha..oh, not forgetting those Christmas gifts, to be given to friends..so if you are reading this blog, let me know..then you will be in my Christmas list..first come first served..ho ho ho

A fun time

haha..yesterday Dale Carnegie class was so much fun..All 21 students were divided into 4 groups..each group had to come out with a group name, costume and cheers..I was in the same group wih 3 gentlemen-Meor, Zul and Afiq..and Meor suggested that we will be wearing construction worker costume..he has a collections of it, fully equipped with the neccessary equipments (hammer, spanar, rope, helmet etc)..our group name is SYNERGY and he also came out with the cheers

hup 2,3,4
everywhere we go, people want to know

One mile-no sweat
Two mile-better yet

Three mile-just for fun

Lost and found

Last Sunday, I lost one of my important belongings, my planner!..I remembered bringing it to church as I was leading praise and worship session for Good News Club camp..then, don't know how it happened, by the time I realised it, it was nowhere to be found..I was really very worried and sad because the planner is so important to me..everything is inside-my daily schedule, contacts of friends, notes, edification material, photos, cards, and haha, one unposted letter (with stamp pasted)..I prayed hard that some church members who had found it, will inform me or at least, passed it to the church office..

The next day, I asked sis, who was helping out in the camp, to search high and low for my planner..but still, no news..alright, I told myself..never mind..just one month to go for year 2006..I will have another new planner for next year then..Meanwhile, I was trying to think hard and ensure that I did not write/keep personal things inside it..Can't imagine it if all these things were to be reveal in public..then I will die standing..

On Thursday, one CG member actually told me that the planner was in her house..Halleluyah...but I scolded her.."Why didn't inform me earlier??"..coz her mum actually found it when she was cleaning up the church, during the last day of camp...anyhow..God answered my prayer..Thank YOU so much..

On 24/11-26/11, it was YM retreat and planning camp, at Quality Hotel Shah Alam..the venue wasn't bad..quiet and relaxing..after a long meeting on the first night (from 8pm-12am)..I went back to my room..and eagerly, opened up my planner and took out the unposted letter..I decided to open it up and read..it was actually written by me on 29/12/2004, to a friend that I have known through Friendster..I wanted to express my opinions and feelings through writing...but ended up, I didn't post it..as I was reading..I was glad that I didn't post the letter..coz if I did, perhaps, the situation today would be different..My roommate reminded me to throw the letter away..in case in future, I lost my planner again...haha..well..don' think I will listen to her..I would probably keep it inside my pandora box...:)

Trip to Singapore

The whole trip was tiring but enjoyable..

Day 1
Reached Singapore at around 8am, by train..Ivan picked us up from Woodland train station before sending my sis to Changi Airport..(she was on duty on that day)..had a quick breakfast at Mcds.. Then, went to sis's place at Pasir Ris to drop our luggage and MC was there to welcome us..Later in the noon, she took us for a tour to the city..One thing good about Spore was that the transportation system was really convenient..you can go anywhere by MRT..as Ivan said, its hard to get lost in Spore..We went to Bugis, City Hall, Orchard, China Town, Takashimaya etc..we had 'xiao long bao' for teatime..actually, nothing special about the 'xiao long bao'..the skin was kinda thick.. Then, later at night, we went to The Oriental Hotel (where the wedding dinner was gonna be held) to meet up with aunty and family.. Aunty was so excited and happy for her eldest son is getting married tomorrow till she realised she forgotten to bring something important from home..the word '喜喜'..so, I tried to cut out the word using the papers we got it from the hotel..and ta ta..I managed to do so and it was pretty good..however, in future, I think I wanna cut it into a love shape to replace the '口'..
Ivan came to pick us from the hotel and we went to Changi again, to pick up sis..then had Ramen for dinner..

Day 2-The wedding day
Early in the morning, we went to the hotel to meet up with cousins..we were asked to follow KS to the bride's house.. KS was very sporting and did pretty well for all the challenges from the 'ji mui' ..there were 3 major tasks..of which if he failed, his 'xiong di' had to be punished-applying nail polish in each fingers for one wrong answer..
KS even sang a love song to the bride..it was so romantic..praise God for this newly-wed couple and may the Lord bless their marriage.
Buffet dinner at night was nice and classy..the oysters were fresh and yummy..wide variety of food, desserts..and the environment was just perfect for such a memorable day..

Day 3-Departure
Again, gotta woke up early as we are going home by train..820am..the ride was 8 hours..haha..can you imagine what sis and I gonna do in the train??...we met these 2 old woman and chatted with them..they were praising us for being helpful, pretty, good etc..:p

It was a short trip..and I didn't manage to meet my friends also...hopefully will have a chance to visit Singapore during Christmas..

First few classes of DC

wow..long time didn't blog..after exam, been so busy with works, church ministries etc..however, days been quite smooth and pretty well..

I had started to attend Dale Carnegie classes..not too bad..better than what I expected..On the first class, the attendance wasn't good..only 10 of us, of which 4 were observers..thus, the trainer just gave us an overview of module one..in another words, instead of 12 classes, it will be extended to 13 classes..last week, 21 of us in the class..and it was interesting..the trainer was very energetic, expressive and even more excited than the participants..He called himself the 'Dale Carnegie' people..and each one of us would eventually become one of them too...haha..

We had a fun time..we learnt few methods on how to remember things, especially remembering names..Dale Carnegie once said, "Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language"..yes, I truly agreed and thanks to my parents for giving such a lovely name..Ai Leng..though it is a very common Chinese name..I always told my friends..if you shounted my name in the middle of Petaling Street, probably you will see more than 5 people responding to you..haha..and one thing that I am very particular of my name is the spelling of it..its A I L E N G..not A I L I N G or I R E N E..though they sounded quite the same..but its just not the same..
and then, we were asked to put some association to our name in order for others to remember our name well..for eg, there's a girl in the class named Julia...so she said.."do you watch 'Pretty Woman', the movie..Julia Roberts was the main actress..and my name is Julia.."so as for mine.."the 'Ai' in mandarin meant LOVE..and who do you usually say I Love You to? To your darling right..so my name is Ai Leng.."pretty easy isn't it...
for the second class..we learnt on the first 9 principles on How to win friends and influence others (please refer to my previous posting on the principles of DC)..we were are asked to pair up and to share which is the strongest and weakest point of us from the 9 principles..my partner reckon that I had a great smile..and it was indeed beautiful..what a pleasure..and I personally felt that I am a good listener at all times..weakest point...can't really think of any..hehe
I had to leave earlier on the second class as I am going to Singapore tonight..yippie...As I was on my way home in the train..something interesting happened..as usual, it was after working hour and the train was pretty much crowded..especially inside the train, I was sandwiched..suddenly, a malay guy who was standing beside me, he talked to me..asking me my name, where from, job etc...out of politeness, I had casual chats with him..and what freaked me was that he asked, "have you been to Sabah? Where do you plan to go? I can accompany you.."wow...unexpected..luvkily, he was going down at the Shah Alam station..else..it would be very uneasy ride for me...
alright...wait for my blog on Spore trip..gonna be exciting..

Nightmare gone

Phew...burden gone..the exam venue for this semester had changed from PWTC to KLCC..reached there 3 hours earlier..so did some window shopping, searching for maps on CHina and India.(GM asked to buy)..managed to find both..:)
KLCC is slightly nicer than PWTC..in terms of space and location...more convenient..don't ask me hows exam..coz I don't know how to answer you...all I can said was that for the first time, I completed all 85 questions, in 3 hours..but of course, few questions were wild guess...mostly, I answered them using common sense and logical thinking...hopefully I can get through this FINAL paper..had enough of suffering and torturing of exam...
After exam, supposingly had an appointment with a friend, but then, Mum called and told me that uncle and family from Singapore is coming..so had to cancel the appointment...mana tau, at the end, they didn't come..darn..
Today on my way to KLCC by KTM & LRT...I had bought the train ticket to Singapore on 16/11-19/11...and I forgotten to buy an extra ticket for my cousin..so was thinking to buy it on my way home from KLCC...but I realised money wasn't enough...short of RM0.20...haha...so I was praying at the KTM station that I can meet someone familiar..then borrow RM1 from him/her..and amazingly, God answered my prayer...met a sister from church...got the money and guessed what..the ticket counter closed!!!...alamak...so no choice..cousin gotta follow her dad's car then..but then I was really happy that God knew exactly what I want at that moment..He heard my prayer and He answered it on the spot...amazing..
for the last few days..sis from Singapore was back, with her boy friend..and he had been treating us good meals almost everyday...finally, I got the chance to go to 日满餐馆..(I was grumbling that previously, they went to this restaurant without me...)..ordered the famous assam fish..yummy..and her boy friend was impressed on how we actually finished the whole fish..left the bone only..haha..

4 days at home

Finally, I got 4 days break from work, stayed home and prepare for exam on next Monday 30/10..
I mean should have more time for revision..

New hair style

I went for hair treatment yesterday...and ended up with a hair cut too..my fringe is shorter than before..and I kinda like it..

"you looked so kiddy now."
"you looked chubby."
"nice hair style.." (comments from GM。。:p)
Chubby..hmm..don't quite like that comment..in another way, means fat...especially those baby fats on my face...How to get rid of that??

Dale Cargenie Golden Rule-Part 2

PRINCIPLES FROM HOW TO STOP WORRYING AND START LIVING
Fundamental Principles for Overcoming Worry
  1. Live in "day-tight compartments."
  2. How to face trouble
  • Ask yourself, "What is the worst that can possibly happen?"
  • Prepare to accept the worst.
  • Try to improve on the worst.
3. Remind yourself of the exorbitant price you can pay for worry in terms of your health.

Basic Techniques in Analyzing Worry
  1. Get all the facts.
  2. Wight all the facts-then come to a decision.
  3. Once a decision is reached, act!
  4. Write out and answer the following questions:
  • What is the problem?
  • What are the causes of the problem?
  • What are the possible solutions?
  • What is the best possible solution?
Break the Worry Habit Before It Breaks You
  1. Keep busy.
  2. Don't fuss about trifles.
  3. Use the law of average to outlaw your worries.
  4. Cooperate with the inevitable.
  5. Decide just how much anxiety a thing may be worth and refuse to give it more.
  6. Don't worry about the past.
Cultivate a Mental Attitude that will Bring You Peace and Happiness
  1. Fill your mind with thoughts of peace, courage, health and hope.
  2. Never try to get even with your enemies.
  3. Expect ingratitude.
  4. Count your blessings-not your troubles.
  5. Do not imitate others.
  6. Try to profit from your losses.
  7. Create happiness for others.
The Perfect Way To Conquer Worry
  1. Pray
Don't Worry About Criticism
  1. Remember that unjust criticism is often a disguised compliment.
  2. Do the very best you can.
  3. Analyze your own mistakes and criticize yourself.
Prevent Fastigue and Worry and Keep Your Energy and Spirits High
  1. Rest before you get tired.
  2. Learn to relax at your work.
  3. Protect your health and appearance by relaxing at home.
  4. Apply these four good working habits:
  • Clear your desk of all papers except those relating to the immediate problem at hand.
  • Do things in the order of their importance.
  • When you face a problem, solve it then and there if you have the facts necessary to make a decision.
  • Learn to organize, deputize and supervise.
  1. Put enthusiasm into your work.
  2. Don't worry about insomia.

CPA workshops

Finally, 2 days of workshops had ended..yesterday and today..at The Coronade Hotel, next to Lot 10..of all the workshops that I had attended before, I found the lecturer for this semester was really good..He knew all the skills and techniques to teach..and he was kind enough to summarise the whole modules (about 250 pages) to 30 pages of notes..thank you so much..in my evaluation form, I gave him all EXCELLENT comments..haha
Day 1
Left Klang 8am and I was really speeding..110kph..haha ( I knew this might be be slow for you..but not to me)...managed to reach KL in 35 minutes..had breakfast in the car before heading for class..There were about 35 people attending the workshop and the lecturer was from Monash University..my uni..He will be going through 3 modules with us today, and then 2 modules tomorrow..After first 2 hours, I was already dozing off..not that the lecturer is bored..but perhaps I was really tired..(tiredness accumulated few days before)..I was wearing glasses, instead of contact lens coz eyes hardly open..
For this semester, there was no lunch provided by the hotel..maybe due to puasa season..so gotta hunt for food..went to the Lot 10 food court..ended up with a bowl of EXPENSIVE laksa.. Then, had some time for shopping..finally got my dress for cousin's wedding in November..new arrival and I was the first to try it..what an honour..
oh..one more thing, the parking rate at Lot 10 car park had increased from RM5 to RM7..tats a lot mann..
On the same day, gotta rushed back to Klang for a wedding dinner..my 3rd for this month..This one was a bit grand than the previous two..about 100 tables and the dish menu was something special..usually we will have longan tong shui as dessert..but we had ice cream..haha..suddenly, everyone turned to small little kids..happily eating the ice cream..The dinner ended up quite late..I was so tired..Once reached home, slept flat..haha
Day 2
Didnt go to church coz had to attend the workshop again..the journey was pretty smooth except at the midvalley highway...I was driving obediently in the second lane, suddenly a taxi driver overtake me..well, I thought, ok..maybe I was driving a bit slow then..few seconds later, he shown me his middle finger for no reason!..my goodness, what is this, did I offend him in anyway?..NOP, I didn't...must be some 变态佬, 没事找事做!
Workshop today was tiring..I had not enough of sleep, so again, I slept somewhere in the middle..was nodding my head..I think the lecturer might be thinking.."this girl agreed with everything I said.."..hehe..
Lunch..I was hanging around at Sg Wang..trying to look for cheap food..ended up with fast food...:p
On my way back..it was raining cats and dogs..so have to drive slow and steady..and I really hated Malaysian drivers, especially GUYS..not gentlemen at all...(sorry no offense)..I was at the toll side, on the cash lane..becaouse it was raining, so everyone is not lining up..trying to find spaces to cut in here and there..it was really irritated..then, this %^&*#$ guy, drove so near to me, almost "kissed" my car, trying his luck to squeeze in..I decided not to give way..and I stared at him..cursing him..and I won!..It was really dangerous though, but thank God I survived..
Then, dropped by Jusco and had dinner with sis before heading home...
2 weeks more to go before I can officially declare Merdeka..so my dearest frenz..please remember me in your prayer..this is my last paper..pray everything is good!

Dale Carnegie's Golden Book-Part 1

Today I received a tiny book from the Dale Carnegie Training Centre..and I found it very helpful and thus, wanna share with you.

PRINCIPLE FROM HOW TO WIN FREINDS AND INFLUENCE PEOPLE
Become a Friendlier Person

  1. Don't criticize, condemn or complain.
  2. Give honest, sincere appreciation.
  3. Arouse in the other person an eager want.
  4. Become genuinely interested in other people.
  5. Smile.
  6. Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and most important sound in any language.
  7. Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.
  8. Talk in terms of the other person's interests.
  9. Make the other person feel important-and do it sincerely.

Win People to Your Way of Thinking

  1. The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.
  2. Show respect for the other person's opinion. Never say, "you're wrong."
  3. If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.
  4. Begin in a friendly way.
  5. Get the other person saying."yes. yes" immediately.
  6. Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.
  7. Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.
  8. Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.
  9. Appeal to the nobler motives.
  10. Dramatise your ideas.
  11. Throw down a challenge.
Be a Leader
  1. Begin with praise and honest appreciation.
  2. Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.
  3. Talk about your own mistakes before criticising the other person.
  4. Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.
  5. Let the other person save face.
  6. Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be "hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise".
  7. Give the other person a fine reputation to live it up to.
  8. Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.
  9. Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest.
to be continued...

Meeting co-ordinator

Today was a superb busy day..I was assigned an important task by GM..to organise a meeting , from head to toe..It was an important meeting (known as TEC-18 meeting), where many CEOs from various companies will meet up and have discussions, on monthly basis. Thus, GM was the host for this month's meeting and he wanted to have it in our office premise..so being the secretary, naturally I have to make arrangement in order for the meeting to be carry on smoothly..so,after a busy day..I wanted to blog it down..for future reference..:)
Prior preparations:-
  • Few weeks before the meeting, I received notification on the details of the meeting from the secretary (Ms XYZ) of the TEC-18 chairman..meeting to be hosted by GM
  • Confirmed meeting venue and time with Ms XYZ..and thereafter, she will help to circular out the information to the others.
  • prepare a map to our office..asked help from the auto-cad personnel..had 4 amendments before sending it out to Ms XYZ.
  • Send out memo to all staffs-to clean up respective departments..to be seen tidy and neat.
  • Make lunch reservation at a seafood restaurant.
  • Prepare refreshment lists-breakfast, 2 teabreaks...go through with GM..everything approved.
  • Shopping for items needed..requested mum to make some 'kuih' for teabreaks.
  • Ordered birthday cake as there is a birthday celebration this month.
  • Clean up meeting venue, re-arrange the table settings, chairs..ensure all equipments are readily to be used, ie whiteboard, ohp projector; prepare stationeries (pen, pencil, paper, marker pen) for meeting; prepare corporate gifts for guests etc
  • Prepare signboard for meeting place, car parking reservation
On the meeting day:-
  • Woke up 5.30am for preparations..fetched Kak Mas (MD's maid) who will be helping me.
  • 7.30-8.30am Prepare breakfast-fried mihun, local kuih, coffee and tea..
  • 8.30-9.45am Arrival of guests-led them to meeting venue, had breakfast..
  • 10.00am Prepare teabreak-fruits, local kuih, coffee and tea
  • 12.10pm Confirmed lunch booking
  • 1.30pm Collect cake
  • 3.30pm Prepare teabreak-cake, fruits, jelly, cofee and tea
  • 6pm Clean up meeting room
For the whole day, I couldn't remember the number of times I was walking up and down the stairs. (meeting at 1st floor, my place at 3 rd floor)..ya, you may said it's a good exercise but then, it was really exhausted..

After the meeting ended, I took the opportunity to talk to GM..hows my preparations? any comments?...He was quite happy with everything and praised me a little ler..yippie..passed my tasks!!!...

I wanted to say many thanks to the following people who had helped me alot:-
  1. Kak Mas-for assisting with refreshments.
  2. Raymond and Karen-for setting up the OHP projector
  3. Nazli-for drafting the map to office
  4. Allie-for assisting in arranging meeting room
  5. Mimi-for helping me with my work while I was away, busy preparing for the meeting.
  6. SIS-for waking up so early and sending the fried mihun to office..
  7. Others who had helped indirectly..

You've got mail

Yesterday night as I was studying, I suddenly remembered that the TV is showing my favourite movie-You've got mail, starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan..The movie started quite late, I think 10.30pm or 11pm..anyway, by the time I on the TV, the movie had started..
I have watched this movie more than 3 times and never got bored..it was such a romantic movie..sometimes, things are just amazing..anything can happen in our life..Tom and Meg met each other through the net..(without realising they were actually enemies..Tom's bookshop had caused Meg's bookshop to close down..).anyway..for more stories, please visit http://youvegotmail.warnerbros.com
However, last night I didn't manage to finish the whole movie coz it was too late already..and gotta wait for the Nightlines to finish..I surrendered..too sleepy and have to attend church services the next day..I think I am gonna get the DVD..
Today, after church service, managed to spend some quality time with family..we went for dim sum for brunch..the place was not too bad but then kinda hot..not air-conditioned..Today's weather also terrible..haze is getting worst!.Oh God, please give us rain...and pray that the haze will soon disappear..
Didn't get to watch F1 Suzuka Grandprix coz too tired..rather spent time sleeping..hehe..It was sad to see Schuey out of the race and Alonso won the title..which means chances of Schuey getting the championship title is so mild..Don't quite like Alonso..find him a bit arrogant..:P
ok..gotta go..hungry..ciao

Happy Lantern Day

当我拿起手提电话,就马上问安, "Good afternoon."."Good afternoon who?".."Good afternoon Mr Tan."..

Life as an Executive Secretary-Day 1

Yesterday was a busy day...started with a Head of Departments meeting and was asked to sit in, to jot down minutes..During the meeting, I found hard to blend into their discussions-one, they were talking too fast, second, they were discussing on some major issues in relation to some operation failures which I was quite blur..Nonetheless, I tried my best to record down all important points and hopefully, minutes will be out by today.

My new place seem comfortable..was actually right under the air-conditioner and it can be really cold..freezing..however, I felt I was so far away from everybody in the office..coz I can't see most of them (blocked by the wall) and no one to chat with..:(

GM had a short discussion with me after working hours..asking me hows my day? briefly telling me my job descriptions and also some personal matters..and he said he will be sending me to some courses..exciting..

This morning as I was browsing through the staff on leave list for Deeparaya, I realised there will be a day where I have to back up the accounts teams..all 3 of them on leave..pengsan ler..coz I have to handle 3 companies' accounts..hopefully nothing much on that day..

Last Sunday, had a chance to have lunch with Mark as he agreed to treat me if I was elected as VP for YM..however, I wasn't feeling well on that day..so had to settled for porridge..the gathering was pretty good and enjoyable..and he is a good story teller though..we chatted about 1.5 hours and I gotta leave for badminton game at 4pm..

The game was good..only 4 of us but a Vietnamese joined in as my partner..He was a cute guy..very friendly and played well..He was very much impressed with Jacky (a superb player..always trick us)..But then after the game, I felt really tired, especially my arms and legs..coz haven't been playing for more than 6 months and I think I stretched too much..muscles pained..anyway, I was looking forward for the next game, hopefully on every Sunday..

Later at night, rushed to my colleague's wedding dinner..only 5 of us in the table, which meant each of us got to eat 2 portions of the dishes..I didn't relly enjoy much coz as mentioned earlier..was not feeling well..3 more wedding dinners to attend for this month..scary..

Busy Saturday

Finally, YM election had over..and as expected, I was voted as the Vice President for 2007 YM Committee board..and haha..a fren of mine owed me an expensive dinner..and May..thanks for the comforting and sisterly hug..
The election was quite smooth..juz tat the attendance wasn't good..we were expecting at least 51 members, but ended up with 47..quite closed..Next year, there will be 10 committees in the board and, surprisingly, it was comprised of 8 sisters and 2 precious brothers...where are the brothers..hmm..only God knows..It will be a challenging job for me..especially more meetings to attend and responsibilities are getting heavier..pray that God will continue to grant me wisdom, knowledge and strenth to serve..to be able to taste His grace and mercies..
Today, it was my last day in accounts department..as Accounts Executive..from next Monday onwards..I will be the Executive Secretary to General Manager..pretty exciting yet scary..scary in the sense that I am not so familiar with my GM's style and for the past few months..I hardly talk to him..and now..I gotta work closely with him..Hopefully, I am not just an ordinary secretary..instead, I really hope I can assist him in many ways as possible..
So, from today onwards, I gotta shift to my new place, 3 tables away from my current place..sitting next to my MD's secretary..and I can see that she wasnt happy with this new neighbour of hers..well..she memang like that wan..perhaps she felt a little bengang of my new title coz no official memo was issued..and previously, she was assisting the GM..now that I have taken over her duties..maybe she felt uncomfortable or what..anyway, I will just do my best..sometimes, working with people really needs lots of EQ, patience, tolerance and integrity.
As usual, I bathed my 2 pets..and had chance to take nap before the elcetion..however, it was a short nap coz I was awaken by mum...asking me to take the cat to the vet..for deworming..unreluctantly, I obeyed..mum so sayang the cat..and care less about the dog..pitiful..nevermind..zhai, you still have me..
October is here..which means a month to go before my exam..will be attending 2 workshops mid of October..and was a little disappointed as my study leaves was turned down by the management..from 4 days to 2 days..reasons being I gotta be standby to backup Malay and Indian colleagues..my previous company allowed me to take more than 2 weeks of leaves..kinda missed that..
Tommorrow will be a busy day..attending church, lunch date..badminton game and wedding dinner..hope that I am energetic enough..

New job, new challenge

Yes, I accepted the offer, being the executive secretary to GM..and already attended the first ever management meeting..basically, I need to take note on important matters, especially concerning GM's decisions and actions..gotta do a lot of reminders and following up jobs..anyway, it was a good beginning..
However, because no official notice was given out to everyone in the Company, I also dare not do anything..I mean, I also don't know whether I should still stick to my accounting jobs or to shift my place, next to GM's office..coz usually, MD will send out an email to everyone in relation to any promotions or important changes to the Company's structure..so I decided to confirm my position with GM and FC before I sendiri, pandai pandai, acting as the exec. secretary..my GM was very considerate and flexible..and FC informed me that my new job should start on 1.10.06..at the meantime, I must complete all accounting related matters, as much as I could, to help to ease my seniors' burden..coz the management didn't want to employ another person to replace me and currently, the accounts department is short-handed..felt kinda guilty..
Yesterday, I was asked (by MD) to write an email to certain Head of Departments ..and I added one line after my signature-"Executive secretary to GM"..and guessed what, some people were so sensitive..kinda got bengang to the title of my position..especially my MD's wife secretary (previously also GM's secretary)..as if I am 'snatching' her title away..and she was bengang coz no one actually tell her that..no official memo given out..well, I am just doing what the management asked me to do..had no intentions to boast around with my new title..
Supposingly today, I was suppose to join the YM sports marathon..but then due to massive traffic jam, I was late and missed the fun..it's alright then, and I had chance to take nap..before waking up to bath the 2 fellas-Zhai & Lui in the evening..
OH...tomorrow there will be another YM committee meeting, part 2, to continue the unfinished matters on last Saturday..hopefully, tomorrow's wont be long..

Busy weekend

Once again, another busy weekend..didn't really have the chance to enjoy it..and now, Monday came..gotta hang on for another 5 days at work...
Last Saturday, I attended the 3rd YM committee meeting...and it was an extremely long meeting..4.5 hours..even longer than any other corporates AGM..why the meeting was so long?? because of some important discussions-YM structure for 2007 and nominations for YM 2007 committees..I would like to blog something on the nominations..
This year, I thanked God for giving me the opportunity to serve in YM, as the treasurer..(after 2 years being the secretary)..and for this year committee board, I would say, I had a wonderful time working together with them and also, the chance to know some of them deeper..especially with the president..besides, I had the pleasure of organising 2 major activities of the year-YM Iron Chef cooking competition and the incoming YM bible quiz..I had experienced God's presence and guidance..not forgetting the co-operations between the committees..well, I admitted that somewhere along the year, I did complain to God, why am I making myself so busy with YM activities? Why can't I become just a normal member? and at one time, I really wanted to tell God, I want to resign..But our God is a merciful God, He understand our wearies and He knew we are tired..He is willing to listen to our complaints/prayers/dissatisfaction etc..and I guessed this is the reason/force for me to overcome all the negatives factors..
However, the nominations on last Saturday wasn't quite smooth...most of the present committees had voiced out their feeling and would like to withdraw themselves from next year's board of committees..well some of them do have valid reasons..some of them would want to have more personal time and therefore, couldn't commit themselves..imagine, out of 14 current committees, only 5 left for the nominations..and I am one of them...actually, I, too wanted to tell God, I would like to withdraw myself as well..but then after hearing from the rest of them, I felt embarrassed to say no to God..coz there is no reason for me to say No..I will still be around next year, nothing major changes in my life for next year (unless any unforeseen circumstances arise), and I can still serve..God wants to use me..Therefore, when my name was being nominated for vice president, secretary and treasurer, I accepted all of them, quietly..:P
One of the reason why I accepted the post for vice president is because I wanted to show my support to May, who has been nominated to be the president for next year (currently the YM president)..I wanted to let her know that
she is not alone..and though my name was up for president too, but I felt I am not ready and eligible for it..thus I declined..so May..don't be discourage..you had been doing a wonderful job this year..keep it up..
Finally, after a long day of meeting, I didn't really have the mood and strength to study...instead, I spent the night in front of the pc..and special thank to a fren, Mark, who had sent me 2 nice songs thru web..and also helping me to search for one of my favourite song, 'Air' by Bach..
The next day, it was our church CG 12th anniversary celebration..all CG leaders and co-leaders presented a song and it was good..though most of them are not from the choir group, but they sang well..I had been a CG co-leader for 2 years, and this year, I was 'promoted' to CG leader..well..this is not an easy task..but then I am grateful for my CG members..especially for this year, God had blessed us so much..
After the Sunday service, I went to KLIA with some CG members, to say bye bye to Jacqlyn, who had joined us for less than 2 months..she is leaving for Hong Kong..so next time, I will have free accommodation if ever I visit her in HK..the journey to KLIA was fun, coz everyone in the car were chatting, joking and laughing..haha..and one member was so eager to have lunch at Eden, a HK style restaurant, and expensive...but then, we ended up at Burger King..personally, I don't quite like the burgers, find the bread a bit too thick..haha..
Then, on our way to the carpark, after sending Jacqlyn away, we met this funny fat man (sorry for addressing him in this manner..) at the lift..he was catching time I guessed...the door of the lift couldn't be close, and he was furious..then he saw someone outside, pressing the button, so he scolded them.."eh..jangan tekan..nanti pintu tak boleh tutup..ini macam, satu jam pun tak boleh keluar"..as he was saying that, he looked at us, sort of like explaining to us why he scolded them..haha..my friends and I tried not to laugh..then when the lift stopped at his destination, he suddenly turned to b a polite man, slowly asking his aunty to go out of the lift and led her to the carpark..haha..totally 2 different person...then I was near the controller buttons, and didn't realise I was actually pressing the door closed button..so my friend imitated the man.."eh jangan tekan, nanti ini macam, satu jam pun tak boleh keluar''..haha..terrible..and we just can't stopped laughing..
There goes my weekend..though tired but then it was fun..
